Depersonalization-Derealization and Panic Attacks

Anxiety disorders can lead to a ripple effect that can create some very confusing mental states. Panic attacks are among the most common of these states and they are among the most frightening. Since panic attacks are similar in nature to respiratory problems and heart ailments, it is no surprise that they can make people feel extremely frightened and uncomfortable. However, there are other serious aspects to severe Anxiety one can experience when dealing with extreme Anxiety. They are depersonalization and derealization.

Depersonalization basically is a type of Anxiety brought on through an out-of-body type event. This means that an individual going through depersonalization ultimately feels totally disconnected from their body in the physical sense. In place of being only one mind and body, the person’s mental state appears disconnected, and separate from the person’s physical body. This is of course just a painful mental condition, which is caused by severe Anxiety and mental confusion.

Derealization is similar to depersonalization in the sense one feels detached. However, with this mental state, the person does not feel detached from the physical body. Instead, the individual will feel detached from the environment he/she is surrounded by. Some may assume this can create a sense of wonder, but it assuredly does not. Instead, it can create a sense of confusion and disorientation. After all, anyone that feels removed from a particular environment will realize something is wrong and may panic as a result. Actually, the same could be said of a person experiencing depersonalization.

It would not be accurate to infer that panic attacks are merely a fear response to the two aforementioned Anxiety conditions. There is definitely a fear component found within the onset of a Panic Attack. And, clearly, someone who is caught in the throes of depersonalization and derealization will certainly experience a sense of fear. However, because the individual is not completely aware of his surroundings, the sense of panic can reach critical mass. At this point it becomes overwhelming.

On top of this, the panicky feeling is hard enough for someone planted solidly in reality. In depersonalization and derealization the individual does not have the benefit of understanding they are connected to reality. This is definitely a fright-filled situation.

Many people might be curious of the causes for this kind of disorienting situations. Various reasons have been found. Many have put the blame on events that were traumatic for these situations, but other people say that there can be an imbalance of chemicals in the person’s brain causing these situations. It can also be possible that several factors could be at fault. No matter what brings on the issues, it is vital to do something to cure the problems.

Locating the reason that the Anxiety is happening and eliminating it, will make the derealization, depersonalization, those panic attacks to go away. Because the Anxiety is the base of all of these issues, eliminating it will most likely get rid of the other problems too. It does take therapy to make this happen.

Treatment can take many forms. It can include psychotherapy, drug therapy, or any one of the alternate means of treatment that may be available. Regardless of the method one selects, it is important to seek a cure to the problem since this will free the afflicted of the ravages of the problem.
