Since you live in the age of knowledge, the quality of your mind is more important than ever. How your mind performs can make or break your career and life.
If you have a sharp mind, you will surpass others who don’t. You will be more productive for years even when you are old.
Those whose have sharp mind are not just more productive now. They are more productive for longer time as well.
That’s why it’s important to put the effort to keep your mind sharp. The key to having a sharp mind is to exercise your mind.
The more you exercise your mind, the sharper it will be. It’s just like your muscles: the more you exercise your muscles the stronger they become.
Here I’d like to share with you three ways to keep your mind sharp. They may seem simple but doing them consistently will give you a lot of benefits in the long term.
The key here is consistency. Doing small things consistently will give you more than doing big things occasionally.
These are three ways to do mind exercise:
1. Playing mind-exercising games
Playing mind games is one of the best ways to exercise your mind because it’s fun. Since you enjoy the process, you can exercise your mind longer.
You have plenty of options when it comes to mind games. You can play checker or Sudoku, just to name two of them. There are many others you can choose.
Of course, to get maximum benefit you should play the games with increasing level of difficulty. You won’t get maximum benefit if you just play the games at the same level all the time.
That’s similar to weight training. Lifting heavier weight is necessary for building your muscles.
2. Reading books that are classic
Reading classic books is good for exercising your mind because the material is more challenging to read than popular material.
Classic books, unlike many popular materials, can only be understood by thinking a lot. That gives your mind the necessary exercise to grow.
Furthermore, a lot of classic books are available for free on the Internet.
3. Reading academic journals and papers
Not many people like to read academic papers, but it’s helpful to sharpen your mind. Why? Because reading academic papers is challenging just like classic books.
Reading academic papers enriches your mind with new vocabularies while also exercising your logic. You can find a lot of academic papers to read through places like Google Scholar.
